Alex Turner of the rock band Arctic Monkeys is acknowledged as one of the great lyricists of the age. The award-winning poet Simon Armitage recently hailed him as a fellow poet, whose words repay repeated study. Yet, few of Turner’s biggest fans will ever have seen his lyrics, let alone studied them.
“In the old days it was easy: you bought your album, put it on your hi-fi and listened to it while reading the lyrics on the record sleeve… But a survey released yesterday shows that we are finding it harder to find accurate song lyrics - and we don’t like it.”
THE KIDS OF TODAY are clueless about the lyrics in songs because no one ever sees them written down, a survey claims.
